Thinking About Rothko

oil on panel
6"x6"

This is a modern young woman contemplating some Mark Rothko paintings.

I'm having trouble getting a good photo, as happens sometimes.  The large paintings in the background are not bowed- the verticals are straight up and down!  Does anyone else have this problem when photographing small paintings, of getting a slight fishbowl effect?

I have been admiring your museum paintings. The first posted is perhaps my favorite thus far.
Your blog is lovely overall. I, too, love the "thinginess of things."

Depending on the lens you use lens distortion will occur to some degree. Most programs that allow photo manipulation have a correction setting to manually correct for lens distortion. I use ACDSee. Love your work.

Brian, thanks for your suggestion. Sometimes I use GIMP, the free photo editing software, but first I'm going to try and retake the picture tomorrow (I prefer taking pictures outdoors in natural light).

Hi Taryn, I have the same problem somtimes but I also try to wait until they are dry enough to scan, usually a day or two, I find I get a more accurate colour representation and sharper result that way.
