Rowhouses on Fourth Street, Bethlehem

oil on paper
6.75"x6"
Back to Bethlehem, and back to St. Michael's Cemetery. The clouds conveniently rolled away while I was painting, then dank storm clouds took over as I was finishing up. The ominous mood was amplified by my spotting a teenage boy messing around behind me with a BB gun that looked like this. I figured it was time to go.

great space, the foreground, though simple, really is close, it must be the perfect color

So many unforeseen challenges in plein air painting - geez! But your work keeps me inspired and knowing it's worth it. This one is a beauty - I love the combo of man-made structures against greenery - your last few are in that ilk and this one is my favorite so far. Also hits home a bit as my partner is from Palmerton, just across the way from Bethlehem. Never been so it's nice to get a view. :)

Thanks Amy. I've been using a little adjustable viewfinder lately, and it sure helps me when I'm outdoors to narrow down and focus on one element.

Karen, thanks so much! It's funny, but after the first half hour I wanted to give up but then got totally absorbed and was able to pull it together. Ah, green and red together is so wonderful.

I love the red of the centre building, it's a gorgeous shade and it really brings your eye in to the piece. Lovely work!

Thanks Deborah. It was a nice, deep red- a nice richness to offset the brightness of the trees.
