This is a street scene in the Philadelphia neighborhood of Manayunk. I lived there for a year, back in 1985, when the population was largely ethnic and working class, and the rents affordable. It's a painter's paradise, and lately I've been dreaming of moving back. Funny how you don't know what you've got until it's gone.
It was fun to roam around and jog my memories. The streets have such great names; Markle, Hermit, Dexter, Connaroe, Cottonwood, Salaignac, Silverwood. The largest church has the wonderful name of St. Josaphat.

Love the strong contrast of light against the darker background ! Great painting!
Love it, Taryn--great winter light--wonderful design.
I really love this piece. The darks are so convincing, yet so, well, *dark* for a daytime scene. Brave, and successful.
