"Young Man Tired of his Hometown" says it all, but I could have alternatively titled this "Dreaming of Distant Lands"- but how corny would that be? Corny, but absolutely and positively true. Over the past month or two I've tried to get back to still life, and have either not felt inspired enough to begin, or happy enough with my attempts to keep from wiping it out. I'm mystifed by this, as I spent almost half a year in 2011 just painting vegetables! My gut feeling about this is that paintings of figures can have more of an emotional impact, and that is what I am after.
I think your title is perfect. That is exactly the mood I saw when I first looked at this painting. I think this is amazing work.
ReplyDeleteYou depicted in a few strokes a whole state of mind, it's so clever!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely. Was it painted from a photo? If so, you've done a (even more) fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteMasterful Taryn. Hard to get the same emotion with still life that you have evoked here. I am totally digging the bits of blue in his shirt. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karla, Sylviane, Sarah and Carol. I'm so glad that you all think I expressed his mood well. Sarah, I worked from both a photo and life.
ReplyDeleteLove the emotion in this...so well done!!

ReplyDeleteYes! This comment strikes home with me. I thought that I was losing touch with my drive to paint, but I think that I have trouble connecting with fruit! Your work is an inspiration.
